Beyond IP Ratings: 3 Rugged Laptop Protection Tests You Should Know

Today we want to talk about, is that those ‘drop not bad, soak not rotten, smashed not rotten’ three anti-reinforced equipment (three-proof tablet and reinforced laptop), you may be in the construction site, the desert or even the bottom of the sea have seen their figure, but you know these devices in the end went through what kind of ‘Devil's test! ‘?
  First, the basic three defence

  1.Waterproof test

Three defence reinforcement is generally expressed in terms of IP protection level, the second figure that represents the waterproof level, will generally take the high-pressure jet way to impact the equipment on all sides, to detect its protective properties, and more strong protection of the flat panel can be soaked in water for 1 hour.

  2.Dustproof Test

IP protection of the first number represents the dust level, in the dust chamber for testing, continuous exposure for many hours, no dust penetration of internal components.

  3.Drop test

Drop test is generally 0.8 metres to 1.5 metres, six sides of the device at the same height 26 times, the device can still boot operation.
  Second, advanced challenges

  1. Salt spray corrosion test

Continuous 48 hours exposure to 5% salt spray environment, simulating the effect of seaside corrosion, to see whether the interface corrosion, touch control is sensitive.

  2.Extreme temperature test

Run in a 60℃ high temperature box for 8 hours, the screen does not black screen; -20℃ frozen after switching on, the battery can still continue to power.

  3.Vibration test

Simulate the vibration frequency of the equipment travelling on the bumpy road to test the vibration resistance of the equipment.

  Military grade ‘Hell Challenge’.

MIL-STD-810H vs MIL-STD-810G: This is the U.S. military standard for environmental testing, and 810H has been upgraded in multiple dimensions compared to 810G released in 2014:
  1. Tougher vibration test

New vibration curves have been added, new high-frequency vibration parameters have been added for UAVs and vehicle-mounted equipment, and equipment is required to remain in operation during vibration instead of being subjected to static.

  2. Stronger temperature adaptability

The low-temperature threshold has been lowered from -30°C to -40°C, and the speed of temperature rise and fall has been increased by 20% in the sudden temperature change test.

  3. More comprehensive environmental coverage

In addition, the acidic atmosphere test (simulating corrosive gases in a chemical plant environment) and solar radiation enhancement have been added, with UV irradiation intensity increased by 30% to prevent screen aging.

  Test Case Comparison

  Test Item MIL-STD-810G MIL-STD-810H

Vibration test 5-500Hz frequency range 2000Hz high frequency vibration is added.

Low pressure test Simulated 4500m altitude Extended to 5000m

Explosive shock 1m drop shock New 1.2m multi-angle shock

  Special Scene Test

Some professional fields of application, three anti-reinforcement equipment also need to be industry-specific, professional testing before being put into use:

  1. Exclusive test for fire-fighting equipment

High-temperature steam: in 100 ℃ steam for 30 minutes, the shell is not deformed

Chemical corrosion: no damage to the surface after contact with 10 chemicals such as concentrated sulphuric acid, alcohol, etc.

  2.Aerospace equipment testing

Rapid depressurisation: maintains operation during instantaneous changes from normal air pressure to 0.2 atmospheres

Cosmic rays: simulated space radiation environment monitoring data storage stability

  V. Write in the end

Three anti-reinforcement equipment for each test, are in order to ‘do not fall off the chain’ at the critical moment, these invisible guardian, it is the warmth of science and technology to bring the world power.
